Saint-Marie Assassination AttemptEdit
In 1940, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini decided to vacation together in occupied France, and planned a brief parade through the city of Saint-Marie. Though this information was supposed to be kept secret until the last minute, the local Free Frence resistance cell led by Jean-Claude Marsalles learned of Hitler's impending arrival and planned to assassinate him during the parade. Their plan was foiled by German double agent Marque Logeaux, who alerted the Germans to the plot. Due to Logeaux's intervention, Marsalles and two other partisans were captured and executed. However, after a direct confrontation with Logeaux, Pierre LeMieux nearly succeeded in completing the assassination, were it not for his poor aim. LeMieux was able to fire twice before having to flee from the scene; one bullet went wild and hit a member of the crowd (reports vary as to whether this bystander was wearing a blue or a brown jacket), and the second hit Mussolini in the hand. Hitler emerged unscathed and continued being a total dick until his death in 1945.
